GLAUCOMA TREATMENTS AT ARENA EYE SURGEONS

At Arena Eye Surgeons, Drs. Pappa and Kirkland have many new, innovative tools or techniques used to treat your glaucoma. There are several ways to manage glaucoma ranging from drops, to surgical intervention. During your consultation at Arena Eye Surgeons, you will undergo extensive testing, imaging, and a thorough comprehensive examination before a treatment plan is suggested. Below are the surgical glaucoma interventions performed by our fellowship trained ophthalmologists.

I Stent

A tiny implant can be inserted at the time of cataract surgery to help lower intraocular pressure. Click here to Learn More.

Kahook Dual Blade (KDB)

A minimally invasive Kahook dual blade in a goniotomy is used to create an incision in the trabecular meshwork to reduce intraocular pressure.

XEN Stent

A XEN stent maybe indicated if you have refractory glaucoma, or an unsuccessful procedure in the past.

SLT

SLT stands for Selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) and can be successful in lowering intraocular pressure for glaucoma patients when less aggressive treatments do not produce results.

Laser Iridotomy

An in-office laser procedure for patients with anatomic narrow angles, acute angle closure glaucoma or chronic angle closure glaucoma that creates a microscopic hole in the iris.

Gonioplasty

An in-office laser procedure which is intended to deepen the anterior chamber angle and can be used as an adjunct for patients who have persistently narrow angles after laser iridotomy or plateau iris.

Trabeculectomy with Mitomycin C

A filtering procedure which involves creating an alternative pathway for the fluid to flow out of the eye through the natural tissues of the eye. Mitomycin C is an anti-chemotherapeutic agent that is used as an adjunct in standard glaucoma surgery to help prevent scar tissue formation as well as promote long term success.

Express Shunt with Mitomycin C

A filtering procedure which involves placing a small shunt inside the eye which helps tunnel intraocular fluid out of the eye creating a bleb.

MicoPulse P3 laser

A laser procedure that can be done in the operating room to help lower intraocular pressure.

Cyclophotocoagulation laser

A laser procedure that can be done in the operating room to help lower intraocular pressure.
